I realize that many people do not really understand what the steps are from concept to creation and then passing of a bill in congress, and that is evident by the many emails and comments people make every day about "Obama's Health Care Bill".
First of all, Obama did not write or submit any bill at all. He has just outlined what he would WANT in a health care bill in order for him to pass it when it finally hits his desk. He is actually trying to take the reverse tactic to what Bill Clinton did when he tried to do health care reform. Clinton had the bill originate at the white house, and sent it to congress to be debated, and it failed miserably.
Obama is making the Congress responsible for forming the bill, which makes Congress a hell of a lot more likely to pass something, since it's really 'their baby'. Smarter tactic.
Here's where things stand:
There are three different committees in the House of Representatives that each passed a health care bill out of their committees. So that's THREE bills in the House.
There are two committees in the Senate that will have bills. One (the Senate HELP Committee) has passed theirs. And the other (the Senate Finance Committee) is still trying to get theirs done. This one is the only one that has no public option included (so far at least - but it probably will still not have one when finally out of committee).
When the finance committee bill is ready, then the process starts:
The two senate bills will be merged into one bill, and will be voted on.
The three house bills will be merged into one bill, and will be voted on.
Then both bills go to a conference committee that will merge THOSE two bills.
Then the final VOTE in the House and the final vote int he Senate on the bill and if it passed both, it goes to Obama to sign.
Whew! What a process!

Has anyone noticed that this and almost every other "BILL" our congress is working on includes spending a lot "MORE" money. It seems to me that if you want to make something better,it may not require additional spending.
Problem: Health care in the US is not as good as it could be. You get to add in any particular issues that is your hot button. Mine is overall cost. Yours may be to help some people do not have insurance.
Solution: Mine is to make our system more efficient. All bills currently being considered include saving money from fixing waste in medicare. Dollar amounts vary from 350-500 billion dollars. If and I say if that can be done, do it now. We do not need to overhaul the entire system to fix waste.
Solution: Yours is equally simple. You pay for it. Just don't expect me to contribute. I already spend (thru my taxes)a lot on welfare (helping people who need help).
